WHAT TO DO

  • Exploring The Area

Joshua Tree is a sleepy little town, so most things close up by 9, but gradually we’ve gotten more and more cool places to eat and hang out. Check out our Guide Book for everything from our recommended grocery stores, to bars or a drive in movie theater.

Of course, The National Park is breathtaking and worth hiking or at least driving around and seeing. The rangers at the entrance to the park will have the best Seasonal recommendations for hikes based on what’s open and how many visitors there are when you are there.

You’ll want to bring hiking shoes, some light exercise clothes, a sun hat, tons of sunscreen, and a robust water vessel.

  • Eat Well

While the Guide Book has a number of dining recommendations, feel free to take advantage of cooking at the house. We have an gas stove, oven, and a propane grill outside. There’s little better than a home cooked meal eaten under the expansive stars.

We provide filtered water. Joshua Tree tap water is safe to brush your teeth with, but we don’t recommend drinking it.

Nature Is Our Back Yard

A trip to Joshua Tree is a trip into wild nature. You’ll have an amazing time if you’re prepared properly.

Weather:

If you’re visiting in the winter (Late October through February), it tends to be about 55-70 degrees (Fahrenheit) during the day and can drop into the 30s or 40s at night.

During Spring (March-mid-may), it tends to be 75-85 degrees during the day;

In summer (June until October) temperatures are on average 98-105 degrees during the day. (Hiking during summer months is strongly cautioned against.)

Critters:

We are located in a slightly more inhabited area, so you’ll interact with less wildlife, but it’s possible you’ll cross paths with some native species. Things to look out for are fire ants (red guys), scorpions, snakes or coyotes if you’ve brought pups. We’ve had one scorpion sighting and one coyote visitor on property in 9 years, so it’s extremely rare, but just good to be aware of.

The high desert gets very dry, so bring moisturizer, chapstick, and lots of water. If you’re prone to seasonal allergies, we recommend bringing your go-to meds.

  • Paper products are tree free

  • Our staff are paid a living wage

  • We recycle

  • Appliances are Energy Star Certified or high efficiency
